About the role
The Department of Pathology is seeking an Assistant Research Scientist who will have overall responsibility for the procurement, preparation, and disbursement of human post-mortem brain tissue for the NIH NeuroBioBank contract. This position supervises associated staff members, manages all aspects of the workflow for the histologic workup of donated cases, and maintains inventory and the database for donor cases.
Schedule
This position is 100% time, with hours Monday–Friday from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.
Responsibilities
- Performs or supervises procurement, processing, and disbursement of human post-mortem brain tissue.
- Supervises and manages technical personnel associated with the NeuroBioBank contract and INRL.
- Oversees completion of all deliverables for the NeuroBioBank contract.
- Oversees scientific research performed in the INRL.
Requirements
- PhD in pathology, neuroscience, biomedical science, or a related discipline.
- 3 years of laboratory experience, including sample management/tracking or inventory management.
- Demonstrated human neuroanatomy knowledge.
- At least two years of experience supervising staff or students.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.
- Ability to multitask and efficiently prioritize tasks independently.
Desired Qualifications
- Certification in biorepository management (QBRS or equivalent).
- Previous brain banking or other biorepository management experience.
- Experience in designing experiments, gathering and recording data, and presenting results.
- Previous experience with outreach and education, particularly to potential brain donors.
- Experience with inventory/project management software.
- Experience with human or animal neuropathology.
- Ability to carry out research histology assays (particularly immunohistochemistry for human species).
Pay
Starting salary minimum: $68,924.00.
Classification Title: Associate Research Scientist/Engineer. This position is not eligible for University sponsorship for employment authorization.
