About the role
The Department of Pathology is seeking an Assistant Research Scientist to manage the procurement, preparation, and disbursement of human post-mortem brain tissue for the NIH NeuroBioBank contract. This individual will also supervise associated staff members, manage workflow for the histologic workup of donated cases, and maintain inventory and the database for donor cases.
Responsibilities
- Performs and supervises procurement, processing, and disbursement of human post-mortem brain tissue
- Supervises and manages technical personnel associated with NeuroBioBank contract and INRL
- Oversees completion of all deliverables for the NeuroBioBank contract
- Affixes to other tasks as directed by the INRL Director
Requirements
- Requires a PhD in pathology, neuroscience, biomedical science, or a related discipline
- Experience with sample management/tracking or inventory management
- Demonstrated human neuroanatomy knowledge
- Previous experience supervising staff or students
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives
- Able to multitask and efficiently prioritize tasks independently
Desirable Qualifications
- Certification in biorepository management (QBRS or equivalent)
- Previous brain banking or other biorepository management experience
- Experience in designing experiments, gathering and recording data, and presenting results
- Previous experience with outreach and education, particularly to potential brain donors
- Experience with inventory/project management software
- Experience with human or animal neuropathology
- Ability to carry out research histology assays (particularly immunohistochemistry for human species)
