Assoc Chaplain - Casual

About the Role

Provides pastoral counseling and spiritual support to patients, family members/significant others, and staff throughout the hospital. Develops a "parish" within the hospital and serves as a member of an ecumenical pastoral care staff, participating in staff meetings, on-call responsibilities, and hospital-wide worship experiences.

Responsibilities

• 60% – Provides direct patient care for emergent and routine requests. Assesses spiritual needs/concerns of patients and their families using clinical pastoral conversation. Communicates and documents patient responses to determine effectiveness and congruence with the plan of care.
• 20% – Participates in on-call rotation, which may include overnight or weekend shifts.
• 10% – Provides appropriate religious/spiritual rituals and non-pharmacological interventions to patients, families, and the interprofessional team. Acts as a liaison with patients' faith groups/leaders, including other community or cultural resources.
• 5% – Demonstrates knowledge of medical ethics and legal issues, including advance care planning, organ donation, futility of care, and patient rights. Serves as a primary contact for ethics concerns and formal consultations.
• 5% – Provides care in diverse acute/non-acute settings, including but not limited to hospitals, outpatient areas, extended care facilities, and homes.

As a High Reliability Organization (HRO), responsibilities require a focus on safety, quality, and efficiency in performing job duties.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree (Required).
• Certificate of Authority as CNS – State of Ohio (COA).
• Knowledge of pastoral care and counseling skills, especially as practiced within the hospital setting.
• Two years of ministry experience, with at least one year in a hospital setting.
