Assistive Technology Instructor (Initial focus: Special Education)

Salary: Full-Time Faculty, Tenure-Track

Location: Ventura College (Ventura, CA) – Department: VC - Student Affairs

Position begins Spring 2027 semester. Nontraditional assignments such as evening, weekend, or off-site may be required with faculty consent or due to campus conditions.

Under the general direction of a dean, the Assistive Technology Instructor provides comprehensive classroom instruction to students from diverse backgrounds to facilitate their academic or vocational objectives.

About Ventura College

Established in 1925, Ventura College is one of California’s first community colleges, with an enrollment of 14,500 students. Located approximately 60 miles north of Los Angeles and 30 miles south of Santa Barbara, the 112-acre campus offers views of the Channel Islands. Responsibilities

• Provide group and one-on-one instruction in assistive computer technology courses.
• Comply with district, college, and Disabled Student Programs & Services (DSP&S) policies and regulations for instructional settings.
• Deliver academic instruction through lecture, lab, or performance courses; assess and develop cognitive abilities, communication skills, and higher-order thinking skills.
• Advise and instruct students on programs of study, higher education institutions, lifelong learning resources, and study skills; refer students to support services as appropriate.
• Observe and evaluate student performance through assignments, projects, discussions, and examinations; provide timely feedback.
• Plan and organize instruction according to approved course outlines and student learning outcomes, aligning with department, college, and district goals.
• Maintain accurate records of course enrollment, attendance, student progress, and learning outcomes; submit data and reports in a timely manner.
• Evaluate and select instructional materials (e.g., textbooks, software, tools) in collaboration with discipline faculty; order materials per campus bookstore procedures.
• Participate in curriculum and program development; update syllabi and collaborate with faculty to revise measurable student performance indicators.
• Revise and update course content based on new theory, application, and industry developments.
• Attend and participate in committees and department, division, campus, and district meetings; may engage in articulation and matriculation activities.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Candidates must meet the minimum qualifications for faculty as defined by the California Community Colleges Board of Governors:

• Master’s degree (or equivalent foreign degree) in disability studies, special education, education, psychology, educational psychology, or rehabilitation counseling AND 15 semester units of upper-division or graduate study in adapted computer technology; OR
• Possession of an appropriate California Community College Credential.

All coursework must be from a recognized accredited institution. Candidates with foreign transcripts must provide additional documentation (see Foreign Transcripts section).

Equivalency

The District recognizes that expertise may be attained through combinations of education, experience, and other accomplishments. If your degree title does not exactly match the listed minimum qualifications, complete and submit the Supplemental Questionnaire for Equivalency for review by the Districtwide Equivalency Committee. Equivalency determinations are made separately from the recruitment process.
