Job Summary
Provides direct patient care, meeting both psychological and physical needs of the patients in accordance with their care plan, regulatory agency, and departmental guidelines. Maintains standards of nursing care, under the supervision of registered nursing personnel, in accordance with the philosophy, goals and objectives of the Nursing Department and regulatory agencies. Provides work direction to Certified Nursing Assistants.
Essential Job Functions
- Performs nursing care for assigned patients/residents per established department guidelines, policies, and procedures.
- Handles admissions, discharges, and transfers of assigned residents/patients.
- Sets up and implements nursing care plans and nursing care.
- Documents nursing care according to established standards and procedures.
- Administers and records medications in accordance with policy regarding the administration of medications.
- Carries out physicians' orders.
- Assists with meal service.
- Supervises and assists with the work of Certified Nursing Assistants.
- Coaches Certified Nursing Assistants and participates in the annual performance appraisal process.
- Assists in the orientation of new personnel when requested.
Licenses/Certifications
- Current LPN license by the Florida State Board of Nursing.
- Current American Heart Association BLS Certification.
- IV Certification preferred.
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing.
Experience
- Experience in a long-term care/skilled nursing facility environment preferred.
Abilities Required
- Knowledge of long-term care / skilled nursing facility environment.
- Computer literacy.
- Self-directing.
- Able to work with little direct supervision.
