Assistant Yard Maintenance Manager - Dalhart, TX

About the Role

The Assistant Yard Maintenance Manager reports to the Yard Manager and assists with managing all general yard maintenance, repair, and daily operations. This role helps communicate yard activities and troubleshoot daily requirements with the yard crew to ensure efficient operations. The position involves assisting with the operation of various heavy equipment and ensuring the general functionalities of the feedyard in conjunction with the Yard Manager.

Responsibilities

• Help coordinate and allocate tasks and responsibilities to the yard crew.
• Assist with the repair and maintenance of all pens and cattle care facilities on a priority basis.
• Ensure that all roadways and alleys are maintained in order of priority.
• Implement and enforce all safety policies and regulations.
• Establish and maintain a water trough cleaning schedule as per company policy.
• Create and maintain all preventative maintenance records for yard equipment.
• Communicate and collaboratively work with the Yard Manager regarding operations.
• Supervise all maintenance activities in the shop.
• Track and maintain yard expense and environmental records.

Requirements

• Basic mechanical knowledge.
• Ability to operate and maintain heavy machinery.
• Experience performing and supervising pen maintenance.
• Knowledge of functionality and operations of watering systems.
• Basic construction and maintenance skills.
• Experience with expense management and recordkeeping.
• Working knowledge of feedyard operations.

Qualifications

• Degree in Agriculture preferred; in lieu of a degree, work experience and/or trade school is acceptable.

Special Conditions / Requirements

• Hands-on operation of yard machinery and equipment.
• Considerable vehicular travel around the feedyard.

Physical Requirements

• Standing, walking, lifting, bending, kneeling, shoveling, climbing, working equipment, and driving.
• Exposure to weather such as rain, sleet, snow, hail, heat, cold, wind, and dust.
• Exposure to hazardous chemicals and petroleum products, carbon monoxide, lifting, welding, cutting, and grinding.
