Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coaches student-athletes during practices, training, and competitions, as directed by the Head Coach.
  • Uploads and downloads game films and score sheets using the VolleyMetrics film program to review and teach skills.
  • Creates stat sheets to record statistics during practice and matches.
  • Scouts opponents, watches multiple matches, and creates offensive and defensive scouting reports for the head coach and team members.
  • Maintains knowledge of and adheres to NCAA Division II and PacWest Conference rules regarding volleyball.
  • Participates in professional development via various educational resources.

Recruiting

  • Recruits student-athletes in accordance with NCAA rules and regulations through scouting, attending tournaments, phone calls, text messages, emails, social media, letters, and contact with coaches and parents.
  • Reviews film and other forms of analysis to evaluate prospects.
  • Schedules and organizes recruiting visits (unofficial and official) for prospective student-athletes, ensuring compliance with NCAA guidelines.
  • Assists in creating itineraries for recruits on unofficial and official visits.

Administrative and Promotional Duties

  • Ensures all required compliance reports are completed thoroughly and on time, including CARA reports, practice and recruiting logs, and inputs to the Compliance Assistant program.
  • Assists the head coach at team meetings, updates the program handbook, and assists with creating and evolving program values, team culture, and program goals.
  • Keeps the team calendar and schedule up to date, creates spreadsheets for player gear sizes, assists in creating gear orders, and distributes gear to the team.
  • Affords assistance in fundraising activities, including running tournaments, concessions, camps, and clinics.
  • Affords academic follow-up on student-athletes, including class checks, grade checks, attendance checks, and study tables.
  • Creates a class schedule matrix to schedule practices, strength training, team events, etc., and works with academic advising to block off times for student-athletes.
  • Monitors prospective student-athletes' applications to the University on Slate, tracks their applications and materials needed for acceptance, and works with Admissions to ensure they get admitted.
  • Affords support for the program and increases match attendance by promoting matches to clubs, high schools, volleyball organizations, and other partners.
  • Reserves venues and classrooms for team functions and events, assists in requesting practice and match times, and assists with beach season logistics including matches, tournaments, practices, and scheduling.
  • Affords assistance in creating graphics and social media content.
  • Completes proper paperwork for athletics (including expense reports, travel expenses, and reimbursement reports).

Physical Requirements

  • Light work in an office and community setting requiring a minimum of physical effort with intermittent sitting, standing, climbing stairs, and walking inclines.
  • Able to lift 50 pounds, walk the campus with ease, and have excellent motor skills.
  • Able to communicate information and ideas so that others will understand.
