Assistant Women's Basketball Coach

About the role

The Assistant Coach aids the head coach with all areas of team administration and management, including practice sessions, conditioning workouts, monitoring of student-athletes' academic progress, and evaluation and recruiting of prospective student-athletes for the women’s basketball team.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the head coach and other staff members with routine administrative responsibilities of the assigned sport program and management of the women’s team.
  • Provide instruction, demonstration, and teaching of the sport’s dynamics to student-athletes to ensure maximum potential of individuals and the team.
  • Recruit and scout prospective student-athletes from high school, junior, and community colleges; make recommendations to the head coach regarding potential of student-athletes.
  • Stay current, understand, and adhere to all NAIA guidelines; maintain up-to-date rosters and other information required by the athletic department; report any violations of established rules to proper officials.
  • Assist head coach in coordinating team travel, arranging competitive schedule, organizing and scheduling practice sessions, updating and maintaining student-athlete recruiting databases, and maintaining files (both hard copy and video) of opponents.
  • Assist in implementing and maintaining a comprehensive public relations program.
  • Assist in managing the operations of sport camps and/or clinics.
  • Assist in women’s basketball fund-raising and booster events in accordance with NAIA, Red River Athletic Conference, and institutional rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Establish and ensure communication and enforcement of rules and regulations concerning student-athlete conduct, appearance, road games, punctuality, and other areas.
  • Assist in transportation of athletes to/from athletic events, which may include driving a full-size passenger van or other large-capacity vehicle.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • One (1) year of previous high school, collegiate, or higher-level coaching and playing experience.
  • General knowledge of NAIA and NCAA rules.
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel and work beyond normal office hours.
  • State of Texas or Arkansas Class “C” vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
  • Acceptable driving record and periodic completion of van safety course.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Physical Requirements

  • Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Working in all weather conditions, exposure to high noise levels, standing throughout the day.
  • Ability to use a loud voice at practices and events and physical involvement in all practices and workouts with players.

  • Master’s degree.
  • CPR certification.
