Department: Distribution Center (Onsite in Kill Devil Hills, NC) • Reports to: Director of Purchasing and Warehouse Manager • FLSA Status: Exempt

About the Role

The Assistant Warehouse Manager is responsible for managing all warehouse activities alongside the Warehouse Manager and Director of Purchasing. This role ensures warehouse operations—including Inventory Control, Safety Management, Shipping and Receiving—are carried out efficiently and profitably.

Responsibilities

  • Log, track, and document daily input/output of merchandise.
  • Process and file purchase orders, distributing them as directed by the Inventory Manager.
  • Process and distribute orders quickly and accurately.
  • Oversee daily inventory received, shipped, and distributed.
  • Prioritize and stage orders in coordination with Inventory Management, Store Management, and Administration.
  • Maximize productivity through frequent evaluation of expenses and financial impact of the warehouse department.
  • Handle all packing and shipping for the company, including mail order, kite-surfing, hang gliding, and retail, while monitoring shipping expenses and supplies.
  • Distribute store supplies weekly as requested by designated personnel.
  • Assign tasks to delivery driver(s) to ensure efficient distribution.
  • Manage Return to Vendor (RTV) merchandise with proper documentation and vendor communication.
  • Oversee fixture/display management for appropriate storage, loading, unloading, and disposal.
  • Perform Total Quality Management (TQM) functions, including documenting damaged deliveries and ensuring shipping accuracy.
  • Lead by example, communicate policies, and train staff to maximize productivity.
  • Maintain cleanliness in work areas, walkways, storage, and supply areas.
  • Direct staff to uphold productivity standards daily.
  • Prepare payroll and assist with budget planning.
  • Train warehouse staff on duties, safety, equipment use, policies, and performance expectations.
  • Ensure safety for all employees, visitors, and guests by maintaining warehouse safety standards.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Requirements

  • 1–3 years of supervision in a warehouse environment (2 years preferred).
  • 1–2 years of experience with inventory control and cycle counting (preferred).
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Forklift Certification (a plus; training available).

Working Conditions

The role operates in a non-temperature-controlled warehouse, which can be very hot in summer and very cold in winter. Noise levels range from moderate to loud. Work hours exceed 40 hours per week, including weekends during peak seasons. May require driving a company vehicle to other locations.

Physical Requirements

  • Over 75% of the time is spent standing, walking, using hands, reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, talking, and hearing.
  • Regularly lift up to 50 lbs.; occasionally lift up to 100 lbs. (using carts, dollies, or team lifts).
  • Good vision, including close and color vision, to read fine print and distinguish items by color.
  • Stand on concrete floors for extended periods and lift frequently.
  • Operate a forklift, requiring manual dexterity and control.
