Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Aid the Warden and Deputy Warden in the administration of the Facility.
  • Establish, review, and implement correctional policies regarding the health, safety, and welfare of inmates and staff.
  • Administer all training and professional development of the correctional staff.
  • Ensure that programs are in place to provide quality, professional training in all phases of career development to the correctional staff.
  • Administer the inmate programs relating to custody operations.
  • Ensure that all inmates are housed in accordance with all applicable guidelines and regulations.
  • Administer custody/security staff operations seven days a week for optimum operations.
  • Communicate with related Criminal Justice Agencies for sharing of resources, intelligence, and information.
  • Provide direct supervision of Department Heads as listed in the organizational chart.
  • Serve as the appeal level for the inmate disciplinary process.
  • Participate in budget planning and operations.
  • Assist the Warden in planning and developing Facility Policies.
  • Cover custody related matters between Federal, State, County, and Local Correctional and Law Enforcement Agencies.
  • Maintain availability and timely responses to all inquiries related to the function, operation, staff, and inmates in regards to all custody/security matters.
  • Coordinate staff committees related to custody and security.
  • Coordinate and communicate with the Warden and Assistant Warden-Administration on staff, training equipment, and operational and emergency needs.
  • Provide direct supervision of Department Heads as listed in the organizational chart.
  • Review interviews, background, checks, and sentencing sheets pertaining to the Community Corrections/Community Service Program candidates.
  • Coordinate all training needs for custody staff.
  • Coordinate and communicate with the Warden and Assistant Warden-Administration on staff, training equipment, and operational and emergency needs.
  • Coordinate staff committees related to custody and security.
  • The Assistant Warden will maintain availability and timely responses to all inquiries related to the function, operation, staff, and inmates in regards to all custody/security matters.
  • An ongoing program of speaking engagements to civic and community groups will be available upon request.
  • Tours of the Facility will be available to organizations, groups, and students within policy limitations.
  • Maintain financial accountability and manage the yearly budget for the Correctional Facility and the Community Corrections Program.
  • The Assistant Warden will be responsible to prepare all Emergency Planning Documents and ensure that staff are trained to implement established plans.
  • Maintain Community Service Programs for the population.
  • Administrative Treatment/Administration Operational Responsibility.

Qualification Requirements

  • The Assistant Warden should possess an Associate’s Degree and have a minimum of 15 years correctional experience in a variety of positions.
  • Extensive job experience through all ranks of corrections is essential.
  • Experience and exposure in all facets of Facility Operation is a must.
  • Knowledge of Correctional Law, Policies, Standards, and Accepted Practices is imperative.
  • Technically competent in acceptable and approved life safety equipment.
  • Knowledge of weapons used in the possible application of lethal or deadly force is needed.
  • Outstanding communication skills, including both verbal and written, and the ability to address/communicate with a diverse inmate culture is required.
  • Must possess a high degree of imagination, ingenuity, and the capability for independent action subject to an ongoing review and monitoring by the Warden.
  • Technically competent in the application of a wide range of Correctional and Law Enforcement Equipment.
  • Must be capable of operating Closed Circuit TV (CCTV) systems.
  • This position is required to be on call twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week.

Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; and talk and hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands or arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.
