About the role
The TCW Companies are seeking an Assistant Vice President of Operations to join their executive leadership team. This role plays a critical role in leading railroad operations, developing high-performing leaders, and driving operational excellence.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and oversight for all operational departments across the TCW Companies.
- Develop, mentor, and coach department leaders while building a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Champion TCW's commitment to safety by ensuring compliance with company safety initiatives and industry regulations.
- Lead strategic planning initiatives that support company growth and operational performance.
- Collaborate with the Vice President of Operations and executive leadership to establish organizational goals and priorities.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, vendors, regulatory agencies, and public officials.
- Oversee financial performance, expense management, and operational efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and industry regulations, including FRA, GCOR, PTC, EEOC, ACA, and other applicable requirements.
- Represent the Operations Department during Board of Directors meetings and executive planning sessions.
- Promote teamwork, employee engagement, and a positive workplace culture throughout the organization.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Operations Management, Engineering, Transportation, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive railroad operations leadership experience.
- Demonstrated success leading multiple operational departments and developing high-performing teams.
- Extensive knowledge of railroad operations, maintenance, safety practices, and FRA regulations.
- Strong strategic planning, organizational, and financial management skills.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced operational environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Business Administration or a related field.
- Executive or senior leadership experience within the railroad industry.
- Experience managing budgets, capital projects, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Work Schedule
This position is primarily office-based with regular travel to field locations, railroad properties, customer sites, and other TCW facilities. The successful candidate should be comfortable working in both office and railroad operating environments.
