About the role

This Broker role is responsible for developing and implementing strategic risk management solutions for large, global clients. This includes the design, marketing, and service management of insurance programs in numerous industry sectors. The role is a hybrid position based in our Chicago, IL office.

The broker will be instrumental in analyzing clients’ exposures to identify and mitigate risk, as well as coordinating the placement and day-to-day activities on accounts. This individual should have validated peer market relationships and emerging senior market relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Assess client needs, design solutions, and negotiate with insurance carriers to obtain coverage that is in the client’s best interests.
  • Develop and lead client relationships, account strategies, and insurance marketing activities for a book of business.
  • Act as the primary negotiator in obtaining the most effective insurance programs to address client needs.
  • Work closely with Team Leaders, Producers, Account Executives, and other client-facing team members to understand and deliver on client needs.
  • Identify and analyze client exposures while collaborating with junior associates to develop effective client risk treatment and placement strategies.
  • Obtain the most appropriate program coverage based on client objectives by developing and executing an agreed-upon structure and strategy.
  • Serve as a source of information concerning market trends, pricing practices, and other underwriting policies.
  • May participate in the development of department policies and procedures and implement them in assigned areas.
  • Provide guidance to more junior staff.
  • Advise on the overall development and growth of a personal book of business and assist in the development of team members.
  • Work on sophisticated accounts with autonomy; support larger, more complex accounts in a collaborative role.
  • Support the team in the solicitation and servicing of clients and the broking of their insurance programs.
  • Advise, place, and service mid-size accounts with minimal direct supervision for an own portfolio of clients.
  • Perform expert comparison and analysis of insurance policies and determine needed enhancements.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5+ years of financial lines insurance brokerage and/or underwriting experience with a concentration on Directors & Officers Liability, Employment Practices, Fiduciary, Crime, and Special Risk.
  • Solid understanding of carrier underwriting practices and processes.
  • Proven leadership skills in working with teams and experience collaborating with clients to exceed expectations.
  • Confirmed client-facing skills, including effective presentations and communications.
  • Validated organizational skills and ability to work with others.
  • Experience in resource deployment and utilization management.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively at various levels.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment that requires managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Sales experience preferred; finance background a plus.
  • Must maintain appropriate broker’s license.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of products.

Pay

The salary range for this position (intended for U.S. applicants) is $120,000 - $165,000 annually. The actual salary will vary based on applicant’s education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on the applicant’s geographic location. The salary range reflected is based on a primary work location of Illinois.

This position is eligible to participate in one of Aon’s annual incentive plans to receive an annual discretionary bonus in addition to base salary. The amount of any bonus varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable incentive plan.
