About the role
This Opportunity WSP is currently initiating a search for an Assistant Vice President, Electrical Engineer to join our Property & Buildings team in California. This position may be based out of any WSP office in California.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate, review, and approve electrical design plans, ensuring compliance with all applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations.
- Apply advanced electrical engineering techniques across all project phases, including concept development, preliminary and final design, procurement, construction, and operations.
- Plan and incorporate future-ready design strategies that address safety, functionality, resiliency, and long-term performance of building systems.
- Participate from project inception through completion, supporting the management of electrical design and construction activities.
- Oversee and mentor cross-functional engineering teams on mid- to large-scale projects, including budgets, schedules, resource planning, quality control, and technical execution.
- Prepare and review technical documentation, including reports, calculations, drawings, specifications, and presentations.
- Provide key technical input on pursuits and proposals, supporting business development efforts and client interviews.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships and collaborate with internal leadership and external partners.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making in alignment with WSP’s Code of Conduct and corporate policies.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering.
- 10+ years of relevant post-education experience as an Electrical Engineer.
- Extensive knowledge of electrical design for building projects, particularly within education and institutional, industrial or commercial sectors, including experience with DSA-regulated projects.
- Strong understanding of applicable electrical codes, standards, and regulations.
- Experience with electrical planning, design, and construction management across renovation and new-build projects.
- Proven ability to lead teams, manage multiple concurrent projects, and deliver high-quality results.
- Well-established professional presence with a strong local network.
- Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and compliance with WSP health, safety, and conduct policies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- LEED AP certification.
- 8+ years of Project Management experience on complex building projects.
- Experience supporting client pursuits, proposals, and business growth initiatives.

Pay
Expected Salary (all locations): $129,600-$192,390
