About the role

The Assistant Vice President of Data Science, BI & Strategic Insights is a high-impact role within the Enterprise Data Office (EDO) at Discount Tire. This role drives the "offensive" data strategy for a $10 billion enterprise, optimizing core business operations through advanced data science, pioneering new revenue streams via data monetization, and modernizing the Business Intelligence function.

Responsibilities

  • Expand advanced ML/AI products and solutions to optimize $10B in core business operations (e.g., pricing, supply chain, customer churn).
  • Identify, validate, and launch data monetization opportunities to create new revenue streams beyond the core business.
  • Research and incorporate forward-thinking "smart technologies" (GenAI, Predictive Analytics, automation) to solve complex business problems proactively.
  • Oversee the end-to-end model lifecycle to ensure data science solutions are robust, scalable, and integrated into daily workflows.
  • Transform the BI function from a reactive "report factory" into a proactive "insights engine" focused on real-time, diagnostic, and predictive reporting.
  • Architect a self-service BI framework and semantic layer, empowering business users across the enterprise to safely build their own data narratives.
  • Incorporate augmented analytics and AI-integrated features into dashboards to enable automated anomaly detection and natural language querying.
  • Champion a culture of "storytelling over stats," ensuring all BI products are consumer-grade and lead with clear, actionable business recommendations.
  • Level up the insights organization to proactively drive intelligence rather than reacting to historical requests.
  • Build and lead a robust competitive analysis unit to provide executive leadership with early warning signals on market shifts and competitor strategies.
  • Translate complex quantitative findings into compelling, executive-ready narratives that influence the C-suite and Board of Directors.
  • Act as the chief evangelist for maturing the organization’s data-driven decision-making culture and improving enterprise data literacy.
  • Partner with the Head of Data Governance to champion the use of governed, high-quality data assets, ensuring "one version of the truth."
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure ethical AI usage and strict adherence to data privacy standards in all analytical products.

Qualifications

  • 12+ years in Data Science, BI, and Analytics, with 6+ years in a senior leadership role within a $1B+ enterprise.
  • Master’s or PhD in a quantitative field (Data Science, Statistics, CS) or an MBA with a strong technical background.
  • Proven track record of linking data science and BI initiatives to measurable P&L impacts and new revenue generation.
  • Deep familiarity with the modern data stack, AI/ML orchestration, and deploying smart tech into production.
  • Demonstrated servant leadership, exceptional cross-functional collaboration, and a relentless focus on internal customer service.
