Responsibilities

• Handle the investigation and prosecution of federal crimes impacting rural Alaska and Tribal communities, including illegal firearms offenses, drug crimes, child exploitation, violent crimes, and fraud
• Assist in the prosecution of a wide variety of other criminal cases as needed to address the District's priorities
• Prosecute complex organized crime or drug trafficking cases, or develop that capability through training and experience
• Travel to remote villages in Alaska as required
• Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as training and experience progress

Requirements

• United States citizenship or national status
• J.D. degree from an accredited law school
• Active membership in good standing of the bar of any U.S. jurisdiction
• Minimum one (1) year post-J.D. professional experience
• Must reside in the district to which appointed or within 25 miles thereof (see 28 U.S.C. 545)
• Must be registered with the Selective Service System if applicable (male applicants born after December 31, 1959)
• Initial appointment conditioned upon satisfactory preemployment adjudication including fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing; continued employment subject to favorable background investigation adjudication

Pay

Salary is administratively determined based, in part, on the number of years of professional attorney experience. The range of pay is $80,000 to $197,000, which includes locality pay. In addition, there is a non-taxable cost of living allowance where authorized.
