The successful candidate will primarily be responsible for handling the investigation and prosecution of federal crimes impacting rural Alaska and Tribal communities, including illegal firearms offenses, drug crimes, child exploitation, violent crimes, and fraud. The candidate may also be called upon to assist in the prosecution of a wide variety of other criminal cases as needed to address the District's priorities.

Responsibilities

• Investigate and prosecute federal crimes in rural Alaska and Tribal communities
• Handle cases involving illegal firearms offenses, drug crimes, child exploitation, violent crimes, and fraud
• Assist in prosecution of other criminal cases as needed to address District priorities
• Travel to remote villages as required
• Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as training and experience progress

Qualifications

• J.D. degree
• Active membership in good standing of the bar of any U.S. jurisdiction
• Minimum one (1) year post-J.D. experience
• Excellent academic credentials
• Superior analytical abilities and oral communications skills
• Excellent research and writing skills
• Good judgment and strong character
• United States citizenship
• Must reside in the district to which appointed or within 25 miles thereof (see 28 U.S.C. 545)
• Must be registered for Selective Service if applicable (male applicants born after December 31, 1959)

Pay

$80,000 to $197,000 (includes locality pay; administratively determined based in part on years of professional attorney experience). A non-taxable cost of living allowance is also authorized where applicable.
