Assistant United States Attorney (Criminal Division)

About the role

The United States Attorney's Office in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is seeking an Assistant United States (U.S.) Attorney for its Criminal Division. The Assistant U.S. Attorney will investigate and prosecute federal crimes, including drug trafficking, firearms offenses, crimes of violence, child exploitation and human trafficking, national security and cybercrimes, money laundering, corporate fraud, and healthcare fraud. They will assist with the prosecution of criminal immigration matters and civil immigration habeas petitions. They may also engage in targeted outreach to communities and strategic partners.

Responsibilities

• Respond to reactive calls, on occasion, outside of traditional business hours

Requirements

• Residency Requirement: Must reside in the district to which appointed or within 25 miles thereof. See 28 U.S.C. 545 for district-specific information.
• Selective Service: Males born after December 31, 1959, must certify registration with Selective Service System or exemption.
• Background Investigation: Initial appointment is conditioned upon a favorable background investigation.
• Preemployment Adjudication: Includes fingerprint, credit, and tax checks, and drug testing.
• J.D. degree and active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction) required.

Qualifications

• Required Qualifications: J.D. Degree, active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), at least 1 year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience, United States citizenship.
• Preferred Qualifications: Outstanding legal ability, high moral character, mature judgment, demonstrated excellence in handling court proceedings, superior oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, superior judgment, ability to handle a high case load, first-chair federal trial experience, strong academics, superior legal writing and research ability, demonstrated commitment to professionalism, ethics, civility, and public service, quick analytical ability, facility to articulate critical issues accurately and precisely, excellent computer literacy skills.

• Salary Information: Basic pay range is $79,351 to $197,100, including 21.03% locality pay.
