About the role
The Eastern District of California is seeking attorneys to serve as Assistant U.S. Attorneys in the Criminal Division of the Sacramento, Fresno, and Bakersfield Offices. The office represents the Federal government in virtually all litigation involving the United States. This includes all criminal prosecutions for violations of Federal law, civil lawsuits by and against the government, and actions to collect judgments and restitution on behalf of victims and taxpayers in the district.
Responsibilities
- Handle a variety of criminal cases including complex white collar, child exploitation, narcotics and violent crimes, immigration, and appellate.
- Work with multi-agency task forces.
- Participate in federal grand jury practice.
- Use a multitude of investigatory techniques, including electronic surveillance, tracking devices, search warrants, telephone toll record analysis, and asset seizure and forfeiture.
- Manage cases from the initial investigative stage through trial.
Requirements
- J.D. degree (or equivalent) and active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction).
- U.S. citizenship is required.
- Reside in the district to which appointed or within 25 miles thereof.
- Pass a satisfactory preemployment adjudication, including fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing.
Qualifications
- At least three to five years of experience litigating cases with substantial responsibility for all aspects of discovery, trial, and appeals.
- Quick analytical ability and the facility to articulate critical issues in a case.
- Excellent oral and writing skills, strong research and interpersonal skills, and good judgment.
- Excellent communication and courtroom skills, and ability to work in a supportive and professional manner with others.
- Experience working with multi-agency task forces, federal grand jury practice, and various investigatory techniques.

Pay
- Sacramento: $85,075 to $197,100 (includes 29.76% locality pay).
- Fresno: $77,135.00 to $180,986.00 (includes 17.65% locality pay).
- Bakersfield: $89,474.00 to $197,100.00 (includes 36.47% locality pay).
