About the role

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Indiana is seeking applications for a General Assistant U.S. Attorney (AUSA) position in its Civil Division. This position may be located in Hammond, South Bend, or Fort Wayne.

Responsibilities

  • Defensive litigation (personal injury, medical malpractice, employment discrimination)
  • Constitutional claims against federal employees
  • Affirmative civil enforcement (healthcare fraud, procurement fraud, financial fraud, pharmaceutical diversion)
  • Immigration cases (detainee challenges, immigration benefit applications)
  • Civil rights enforcement actions

Requirements

  • United States citizenship required
  • J.D. degree and active bar membership (any U.S. jurisdiction) required
  • Reside in the district or within 25 miles thereof

Qualifications

  • At least 1 year post-J.D. legal or relevant experience
  • At least 3 or more years of post-J.D. experience litigating federal or state court cases
  • Substantial experience conducting discovery, legal writing, and oral advocacy
  • Experience handling settlement negotiations
  • Strong work ethic, excellent research and writing skills, and strong oral advocacy skills
  • Strong commitment to public service, attention to detail, and sound judgment
  • Excellent computer literacy skills, including experience with automated research, electronic court filing, and email/word processing systems

Pay

Basic pay range: $65,563.00 to $171,475.00. Locality pay varies based on duty location.
