About the role

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma is seeking experienced, motivated attorneys to join our Civil Division. This announcement is used to fill immediate vacancies with multiple cut-off dates, and may be used to fill other permanent appointments and vacancies.

Responsibilities

  • Legal research and writing
  • Directing investigations
  • Case development
  • Case presentation and resolution
  • Defensive practice areas: personal injury and wrongful death, employment discrimination, constitutional torts, medical malpractice, and immigration
  • Affirmative practice areas: investigation and prosecution of civil actions under statutes such as the False Claims Act, Controlled Substances Act, and Americans with Disabilities Act
  • Representing the United States, its agencies, officers, and employees in civil actions in the Eastern District of Oklahoma

Requirements

  • J.D. degree and active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction)
  • At least 1 year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience
  • U.S. citizenship
  • Desire to work as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Eastern District of Oklahoma, with civil prosecution experience
  • Prior experience in medical malpractice and employment discrimination
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, and ability to work closely with federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement agencies
  • Superior research, writing, and oral advocacy abilities, strong academic credentials, and good judgment
  • Professional experience/growth potential, academic record, writing sample, and interview performance
  • Commitment to excellence, strong work ethic and drive, successful team work, leadership, obstacles overcome, and personal, academic, and professional achievements
  • Sound judgment and good character
  • Balance in interests and abilities

Qualifications

  • Required Qualifications: J.D. Degree, active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), at least 1 year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience

Pay

Assistant United States Attorney's pay is administratively determined based, in part, on the number of years of professional attorney experience. The range of basic pay is $76,748 to $150,000 which includes 17.06% locality pay.

Travel

1 to 5 nights of travel required per month
