About the role

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Colorado is currently accepting applications for Assistant United States Attorney positions to work in the Violent Crime Section (VCS) and the Transnational Organized Crime and Money Laundering Section (TOCML).

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with law enforcement to combat violent crimes, cartels, transnational organized crime, illegal immigration, and drug trafficking.
  • Develop investigative strategies, employ sophisticated surveillance techniques, and shape cases from their inception.
  • Collaborate with agents from various agencies such as DEA, FBI, IRS, HSI, ATF, ICE, and others.
  • Engage in fast-paced litigation practices in US District Court.
  • Responsibilities increase and assignments become more complex as experience progresses.

Requirements

  • Must have a J.D. degree and be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction).
  • At least 1 year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Excellent writing, speaking, and analytical skills preferred.
  • Interest in handling a wide variety of challenging cases on behalf of the United States.
  • Ability to work independently and on teams.

Qualifications

  • Required: J.D. Degree, active bar membership, and 1 year post-J.D. experience.
  • Preferred: Excellent writing, speaking, and analytical skills; interest in public service; ability to work independently and on teams.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive benefits package including paid vacation, sick leave, holidays, telework, life insurance, health benefits, and participation in the Federal Employees Retirement System.
  • Salary range: $85,573 to $197,100, including 30.52% locality pay.

Other

  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication, including fingerprint, credit, and tax checks, and drug testing.
  • Continued employment is subject to a favorable background investigation.
  • Assistant United States Attorneys must reside in the district to which appointed or within 25 miles thereof.
  • Political appointees must disclose relevant information.
