Assistant United States Attorney

About the role

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of New York (NDNY) seeks Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) to work in the Criminal Division in Albany, Binghamton, Plattsburgh, or Syracuse, New York.

Responsibilities

• Work with law enforcement agencies to investigate federal crimes such as drug trafficking, child exploitation, gang activity, illegal immigration, national and border security, and fraudulent or corrupt conduct in various sectors.
• Research and brief legal issues, draft motions and responses, and prepare search warrants.
• Represent the United States before grand juries and in trials and appeals.
• Occasional travel to court sites within the district may be required.

Requirements

• J.D. degree and active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction).
• At least 1-year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience.
• U.S. citizenship.
• Experience in federal criminal practice, electronic discovery, collaboration, and courtroom litigation.

Qualifications

• At least 3 years of post-J.D. experience developing strong legal writing, oral advocacy, and courtroom litigation skills.
• Facility with federal criminal practice.
• Comfort with all aspects of electronic discovery and litigation.
• Effective collaboration with AUSAs, law enforcement, support staff, and court personnel.
• Impeccable integrity.
• Self-motivation, justice orientation, organization, and courtesy.

Pay

• Pay is administratively determined based on years of professional attorney experience, ranging from $65,563 to $171,487 per year, plus a locality pay supplement.
