Assistant United States Attorney (Appellate Division)

Duties

The U.S. Attorney's Office seeks to fill an Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) position in the Appellate Division. The Appellate Division represents the U.S. Attorney's Office in criminal matters before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. As an AUSA in the Appellate Division, you will:

• Research and write appellate briefs and post-conviction responses.
• Present oral arguments on complex and novel issues involving constitutional, statutory, evidentiary, and procedural matters, as well as sentencing issues.
• Handle cases related to immigration, national security, and public safety.
• Provide real-time trial assistance to AUSAs as needed.

Qualifications

• J.D. degree and active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction).
• United States citizenship required.
• Quick analytical ability to articulate critical issues in a case.
• Superior oral and writing skills, strong research and interpersonal skills, and good judgment.
• Excellent communication and courtroom skills, and ability to work professionally with others.

Salary

Assistant United States Attorney's pay is administratively determined based, in part, on the number of years of professional attorney experience. Salaries vary by location:

• Baumont and Tyler, Texas: $76,748 to $173,485, including 17.06% locality pay.
• Plano and Sherman, Texas: $83,435 to $188,602, including 27.26% locality pay.
