Assistant Training Manager - Functional Skills & Curriculum Support
Job Purpose
The post holder will be responsible for delivering high-quality Functional Skills teaching in English and/or Mathematics to learners across a range of apprenticeship programs. The postholder will be supported to develop broader curriculum delivery support and responsibility to meet the five-year strategy as the company expands.
Key Accountabilities
Plan and deliver high-quality, engaging Functional Skills lessons in English and/or Mathematics in both classroom and one-to-one settings.
Adapt teaching methods and resources to meet individual learner needs, including differentiated delivery for varying abilities.
Deliver bespoke 1:1 support sessions to address specific skills gaps and support learner progression.
Audit learner work, provide constructive feedback, and track progress against targets.
Contribute to the design, development, and continuous improvement of the Functional Skills curriculum.
Develop and maintain Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) with clear, measurable targets.
Support the integration of digital learning tools and innovative teaching approaches to enhance delivery.
Ensure curriculum content is contextualized to learners’ vocational areas and individual goals.
Embed safeguarding, Prevent duty, and British Values into teaching, learning, and assessment practices.
Prepare learners for examinations, including mock assessments and revision sessions.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date learner records in line with organizational and funding requirements.
Work collaboratively with Training Managers, and other colleagues to support learner success.
Communicate effectively with employers where required to support learner progress.
Attend team meetings, standardization sessions, and CPD activities.
Provide support for funded projects that require learner or employer engagement intervention and/or curriculum delivery (regional training centers).
Complete all required documentation in line with organizational and regulatory requirements.
Support the administration of exams, including invigilation where required.
Qualifications
Level 2 qualification (GCSE or equivalent) in English and Mathematics (minimum requirement).
Level 3 or above qualification in English and/or Mathematics.
Recognised teaching qualification (e.g. Award in Education and Training, Certificate in Education, PGCE) or willingness to work towards.
Functional Skills subject specialism or relevant CPD.
Experience
Experience delivering Functional Skills English and/or Mathematics.
Experience contributing to curriculum design or development (desirable).
Experience delivering both classroom-based teaching and one-to-one support.
Experience using BKSB or similar initial assessment tools.
Experience working within the Education and Training sector, ideally apprenticeships or adult learning.
Experience supporting learners to achieve qualifications and overcome barriers to learning.
Understanding of ESFA funding requirements and Ofsted expectations (desirable).
