Assistant Track Superintendent

Responsibilities

• Assist the Track Superintendent to ensure the operating excellence of racetrack surface.
• Prioritize projects and tasks needed to care for and maintain the racing surface.
• Document protocols to maintain external and internal compliance.
• Plan, propose, and implement innovative methods to improve operations, minimize costs, and maximize use of materials and assets.
• Uphold standards and practices that support the comprehensive safety and integrity of horseracing.
• Absorb responsibility for the preparation of the surface for training and racing.
• Aid in the procurement, operation, and maintenance of all equipment/tools/materials necessary to prepare the surface for training and racing.
• Aid in leading the team members in the Track Maintenance department to ensure smooth operations and the goals of the department are achieved.
• Comply with company, local, state, and federal regulations.
• Absorb responsibility for overseeing the barn area for maintenance issues, assisting in repairs as needed, and assisting in directing team members to perform repairs and maintenance.
• Absorb responsibility for assisting the Track Superintendent in department operations, including managing the team, operations, and payroll.

Requirements

• Thorough knowledge of Thoroughbred horses.
• Ability to operate and maintain equipment (tractors, loaders, graders, etc).
• Knowledge of OSHA required standards and safety requirements.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1-3 years previous track maintenance experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must have thorough knowledge of Thoroughbred horses.
• Must be able to operate and maintain equipment (tractors, loaders, graders, etc).
• Must have knowledge of OSHA required standards and safety requirements.
