Responsibilities & Professional Development

  • Take ownership of daily planning, scheduling, and execution of golf course maintenance operations while leading, mentoring, and developing 25+ team members in a culture of accountability and professionalism.
  • Assist with irrigation management, fertilizer and pesticide applications, cultural practices, tournament preparation, and course setup.
  • Work directly with the Golf Course Superintendent and Co-Assistant Superintendent to develop and implement short- and long-term agronomic plans.
  • Participate in Green Committee meetings.
  • Gain exposure to budgeting, capital planning, and strategic decision-making.
  • Take ownership of projects and contribute ideas to improve course conditions and departmental operations.
  • Attend local and national educational opportunities, conferences, and industry events.
  • Receive mentorship and increasing responsibility to prepare for the next step in your career.

Schedule & Expectations

  • Rotating weekend schedule with the Golf Course Superintendent and Co-Assistant Superintendent.
  • Summer months typically require 50–60 hours per week.
  • During the remainder of the year, schedules generally average around 40 hours per week.
  • Flexibility is expected during tournaments, special events, weather events, and periods of agronomic necessity.
  • Work-life balance is maintained while meeting the demands of the golf course.

Requirements

  • Degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field.
  • Experience as an Assistant Superintendent, Second Assistant Superintendent, Spray Technician, Foreman, or another golf course maintenance leadership role.
  • California Qualified Applicator License (QAL) or Qualified Applicator Certificate (QAC), or the ability to obtain either within six months of hire.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Passion for developing people and producing exceptional playing conditions.
