About the role

The Department of Educational Studies at Ball State University welcomes applications for a full-time teaching position in Adult and Community Education. The position is an annual, renewable ten-month appointment with the possibility of supplemental summer opportunities. This opportunity requires an on-campus presence.

Responsibilities

  • Advise students in the Masters degree program and serve as appropriate on doctoral dissertation-in-practice committees.
  • Participate in ongoing course and curriculum development as a part of the faculty team in Adult and Community Education, the Department of Educational Studies, and Teachers College.
  • Work effectively with various populations of students, colleagues, and members of the community.
  • Teach graduate level courses related to adult and community education.
  • Instructional duties will include recruitment and student advising for masters programs and serving on doctoral committees.
  • Service: The candidate will be expected to have involvement in and contributions to academic or professional organizations and societies that represent adult and community education and related fields; service to the Department of Educational Studies, Teachers College, and Ball State University.
  • Research: The candidate is expected to be current and fluent with research related to adult and community education, learning theory, and community engagement. The candidate should regularly engage with scholarly work at conferences and in print, including occasional presentation and publication of original research.

Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate in adult education, community education, or closely related field (by date of appointment).
  • Relevant and successful teaching experience or potential to teach adult education courses designed to serve multiple graduate programs.
  • Able to teach and conduct academic duties in face-to-face and online environments.
  • Knowledge and experience in working with diverse student populations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Openness and expertise in leadership and/or collaborative engagement with peers and colleagues.
  • A commitment to strengthening and supporting ongoing growth of our programs.
  • Experience teaching using online and distance-learning course delivery methods.
  • Experience advising graduate students, chairing, or serving on doctoral committees.
  • Experience working with community organizations, community education, and/or governmental organizations.
  • Experience with community engagement or service-learning activities.
  • Evidence of scholarly activities (i.e. publications, research, and grants) related to adult and community education.
