Assistant Teaching Professor, Modern Languages and Literatures
About the role
The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at Fairfield University seeks applications for a non-tenure track Assistant Teaching Professor of Spanish, with an emphasis in Latin American studies and culture, to begin in the fall of 2027, pending final budget approval. The department consists of 15 full-time faculty members teaching a dynamic curriculum and engaged in research in areas such as peninsular and Latin American literature and cinema, cultural studies, linguistics, translation, and Spanish for specific purposes. Fairfield University is a Jesuit Catholic university, consistently ranked as a top comprehensive university in New England, located in the scenic shoreline community of Fairfield, CT, one hour from New York City along Long Island Sound. Its five Colleges and Professional Schools enroll approximately 5,300 undergraduate and 1,400 graduate students.
Responsibilities
- Teach four classes per semester, with a maximum of three preparations.
- Teach courses at all levels of the Spanish undergraduate curriculum, including elementary and intermediate levels.
- Participate in department, college, and university-wide service.
- May contribute to interdisciplinary programs in the Meditz College of Arts and Sciences.
Qualifications
- PhD in Spanish required by the time of appointment.
- Demonstrated record of excellence in teaching at the university level.
- Previous experience coordinating Spanish language programs at the undergraduate level is greatly valued.
- Ability to contribute to the University's core curriculum priorities of writing across the curriculum, social justice, and interdisciplinarity.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States by the time of appointment (no visa sponsorship provided).
