Assistant Teaching Professor
Job Summary
The Assistant Teaching Professor works collaboratively with the Department of Speech-Language Pathology to develop and implement programs ensuring a superior didactic and clinical experience for graduate students. This role ensures alignment with CAA standards and advances the profession through research and teaching.
About the Role
This role involves providing course instruction, interviewing and selecting student applicants, assisting with curriculum design, and serving as an advisor for graduate students.
Responsibilities
- Provides course instruction across the lifespan, including face-to-face and online/hybrid teaching activities.
- Assists with designing, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating graduate-level SLP curriculum.
- Interviews and selects student applicants for admission to the SLP graduate program.
- Communicates with and coordinates part-time and consultant faculty services.
- Evaluates student performance using competency-based standards and evaluation tools.
- Serves as advisor for SLP graduate students.
- Ensures availability of remedial and advanced instruction based on student needs.
- Assists with curriculum design, change, and updates based on evaluations and research.
- Develops a clinical or basic science line of research, pursues funding opportunities, and publishes findings.
- Engages in community-based service projects and research.
- Utilizes and instructs students via state-of-the-art technology.
- Helps write annual accreditation reports and market the SLP program.
- Serves as a faculty clinic supervisor.
Requirements
- Doctorate in Speech-Language Pathology or related field (PhD or EdD with preference for SLPDs).
- Experience, expertise, or willingness to teach graduate-level coursework in adult neurogenic/neurological disorders of speech, language, and cognition, research, and/or counseling.
- ABDs will be considered if doctoral degree is earned by the end of Fall Semester 2026 and can be proven via final official doctoral degree academic transcript.
- Completed degree from an SLP graduate program located at an accredited university.
- ASHA Certified Speech-Language Pathologist (CCC-SLP) with current licensure in Pennsylvania, or license eligible.
- Minimum 2-5 years SLP clinical experience in selected area(s) of academic/research interest.
- Documented expertise in relevant areas of teaching/research responsibility.
- Knowledge of content delivery methods including web-supported classes and distance learning.
- Excellent oral, written, and computer skills (proficiency in electronic communication, word processing, and accessing internet resources and clinical/didactic computer applications).
- Knowledge of the roles, responsibilities, and scope of practice of the Speech-Language Pathology profession.
Qualifications
- Team building, organization, and leadership skills.
- University teaching experience in SLP education.
- Ability to network with internal campus constituents representing various academic disciplines.
- Active participation/leadership in local, regional, or national SLP organizations.
- Funded grant work or grant writing experience preferred.
