About the role
The Assistant Teacher II supports teachers at Southern Maryland Campus of Kennedy Krieger School Program, serving students from kindergarten through eighth grade and ages five to twenty-one. The position involves assisting with IEP implementation, adapting instruction to meet diverse student needs, and taking on teacher duties during absences.
Responsibilities
- Implement instruction in accordance with students' IEPs under the guidance of a supervising teacher.
- Prepare for and participate in parent conferences and interdisciplinary team meetings.
- Assume responsibilities during after-school emergencies, including student supervision, phone communication, and written documentation.
- Support and lead curricular and extracurricular activities, special events, and projects that enhance the school environment.
- Provide independent instruction, supervision, and classroom management in the absence of the supervising teacher.
- Implement behavioral protocols and assignments for students during both instructional and non-instructional times.
- Operate professionally during instructional and non-instructional times, adhering to administrative guidelines.
- Participate in and contribute to in-service training and staff meetings.
- Utilize technology in instructional design and delivery as directed by the supervising teacher.
Qualifications
- Professional Crisis Management (PCM) training provided by the department.
- Certification at the “Practitioner” level or higher, as per departmental policy.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Previous experience working with children with developmental disabilities is preferred.
Pay
$17.77/Hr. - $28.99/Hr.
