Assistant Teacher II (Powder Mill Campus-Beltsville, MD)

Responsibilities

• Aid in implementing instruction aligned with students' IEPs under the guidance of a supervising teacher.
• Collaborate with parents and interdisciplinary teams to plan and conduct parent conferences and meetings.
• Take on responsibilities during after-school emergencies, including student supervision, phone communication, and documentation.
• Support and lead curricular and extracurricular activities, special events, and projects that enhance the school environment and foster a positive school culture.
• Assume all teacher duties during extended absences of a teacher.
• Provide independent instruction, supervision, and classroom management in the absence of the supervising teacher.
• Implement behavioral protocols and assignments for students during both instructional and non-instructional times.
• Operate in a professional manner during instructional and non-instructional times, adhering to administrative guidelines.
• Participate in and contribute to in-service training and staff meetings.
• Utilize technology in instructional design and delivery as directed by supervising teachers.

Qualifications

• Professional Crisis Management (PCM) training will be provided by the department, following individual program requirements.
• Must achieve and maintain certification at the “Practitioner” level or higher, as per departmental policy.
• Bachelor’s degree is required.
• Previous experience working with children with developmental disabilities is preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to perceive sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction.
• Capacity to receive detailed information through oral communication and make discriminations in sound.
• Occasional lifting and carrying of students requiring assistive and/or adaptive equipment.
• Ability to lift, carry, and/or restrain students as necessary to implement approved behavioral management techniques.

Pay

Minimum pay range: USD $21.20/Hr.
Maximum pay range: USD $26.94/Hr.
