About the role
The Assistant Supervisor of Custodial Services position oversees custodial employees to maintain cleanliness and sanitation across various campus buildings, including offices, classrooms, labs, fitness centers, and entrances/hallways. This role also involves training new employees and acting as a resource for building inspections, training, special projects, supply inventory, and emergency calls.
Responsibilities
- Screen employment applicants and provide recommendations to the Director of Auxiliary and Facility Services.
- Prepare and adjust work schedules for assigned employees.
- Ensure custodial services meet college needs by managing workloads and addressing changes.
- Audit and approve employee time entries, monitor absences, and conduct performance evaluations.
- Advise and counsel custodial personnel on college rules and policies, issue warnings, and recommend disciplinary actions.
- Facilitate a training program for new custodial employees and provide ongoing training.
- Communicate with other college employees and assist the Supervisor with personnel actions.
- Assist in developing departmental goals and budget requests.
- Test and recommend new cleaning products to the Director.
- Perform building inspections to ensure compliance with safety procedures and document findings.
- Manage supplies and equipment inventory, replenish supplies, and make repairs.
- Support special projects as directed, such as organizing new buildings, gym floor refinishing, and summer residence hall cleaning.
- Complete cross-training in all aspects of custodial services.
- Facilitate quarterly employee input meetings with lead custodians.
- Contribute to the department's success by performing daily custodial duties as needed.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or GED with at least one year of supervisory experience in custodial or building maintenance.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- A working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including creating documents, spreadsheets, and presentations.
- A knowledge of cleaning techniques, materials, and equipment.
- Ability to learn and utilize various cleaning machines and equipment.
- Effective communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with faculty, staff, and administration.
- Ability to respond to emergencies and work in inclement weather.
- A valid driver’s license.
