Assistant Superintendent

General Purpose

Responsible for managing all agronomic procedures for our 12-hole course. The candidate will report directly to the Director of Agronomy and work closely with other assistants and equipment managers.

Essential Duties

• Work with the Superintendent to ensure that the annual golf course maintenance budget and capital plans are maintained and followed
• Supervise and assist maintenance staff in daily duties
• Aid in the planning, organizing, and direction of the maintenance and construction of putting greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and bunkers
• Supervise the planting and cultural practices involved in growing various turf grasses, trees, and ornamental plants
• Ensure that construction equipment is properly maintained
• Aid in the procurement of supplies and materials and ensure costs remain within budgetary limitations
• Keep records of annual maintenance activities and costs and assist with the preparation of required reports
• Follow sound purchasing procedures utilizing preferred vendors when possible
• Reconcile and provide timely coding of all invoices, payroll, and other required documents
• Cookout snow removal (depending upon facility location)
• Ensure all company policies and procedures are followed including compliance with government regulations
• Avoidance of real or perceived environmental concerns directly
• Manage department members that may include, but are not limited to: Mechanic, Environmental Technician, Equipment Operator, Foreman, Greenskeeper, and Irrigation Technician
• Ensure that effective orientation and training are given to each new associate; develop ongoing training programs
• Maintain department members that may include, but are not limited to: Mechanic, Environmental Technician, Equipment Operator, Foreman, Greenskeeper, and Irrigation Technician
• Monitor business volume forecast and plan accordingly in areas of manpower, productivity, costs, and other expenses
• Regular and reliable attendance
• Incorporate safe work practices in job performance

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's or associate's degree from a two or four-year college or technical school; three to four years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience (degree preference in agronomy, horticulture, or plant/soil science)

Physical Demands

• Regularly stands, walks, and sits
• Regularly uses hands, reaches with arms and hands, and talks or hears
• Occasionally climbs, balances, stoops, kneels, crouches, crawls, tastes, or smells
• Regularly lifts up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds
• Works near moving mechanical parts, fumes, and/or airborne particles
• Frequently works in outdoor weather conditions
• Noise level is moderate

Job Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Ability to read and speak English is required in order to perform the duties of the job (e.g. associates are required to communicate with English-speaking customers or co-workers, and equipment manuals are in English)
