Assistant Student Life Advisor Student Organizations (Student Services Professional IA)
About the role
The Assistant Student Life Advisor, Student Organizations (Student Services Professional IA) supports student involvement, leadership development, and campus engagement at San Diego State University. Working as part of the Center for Student Organizations & Activities team, this position helps student organizations navigate university processes, plan programs and events, connect with campus resources, and create meaningful opportunities for involvement. This role contributes to a wide range of student engagement initiatives, from supporting recognized student organizations and leadership programs to assisting with campus-wide events and coordinating outdoor spaces.
Responsibilities
- Support recognized student organizations by serving as a resource on university processes, event planning, leadership development, and organizational operations.
- Aid in student organization recognition and compliance activities, including application reviews, eligibility verification, training tracking, and policy-related processes.
- Coordinate student engagement programs and events, such as leadership workshops, organization fairs, recruitment events, community service initiatives, and campus traditions.
- Partner with campus departments and student leaders to develop educational programs, leadership experiences, and engagement opportunities for a diverse student population.
- Maintain student organization resources and communications, including websites, databases, handbooks, records, publications, and informational materials.
- Provide logistical support for outdoor spaces and student organization activities, helping ensure programs and events run smoothly and successfully.
- Collect and compile participation data, assessments, and reports to support program evaluation and continuous improvement efforts.
- Contribute to marketing and outreach efforts by helping promote programs, events, and student engagement initiatives across campus.
Requirements
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field. Specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown below may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
- Strong ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
- Educational and observational skills for gathering and interpreting information.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities, with the capacity to evaluate information and develop sound recommendations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including report writing, presentations, and professional correspondence.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt effectively in a fast-paced, changing work environment.
- Strong organizational and project coordination skills, with the ability to oversee several concurrent activities and deadlines.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience presenting information and supporting educational, student-focused, or co-curricular programs and activities.
- Commitment to teamwork, customer service, and fostering a positive and inclusive campus environment.
Qualifications
- Must possess or be able to obtain a California driver’s license within 30 days of hire.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
- Must comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

Pay
Salary is based on your experience, education, and qualifications, within the department’s budget and equity guidelines. Hiring salary not expected to exceed $4,150.00/month.
Schedule
Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
