About the role
The Assistant Manager, Store, role at Goodwill is designed for experienced managers from retail, hospitality, or production backgrounds. Key responsibilities include managing daily operations, supporting financial goals, and leading a team of 20-30 people.
Responsibilities
- Manage daily operations of the retail store, including sales floor, donation store, production areas, and storage facilities.
- Ensure adherence to safety standards and OSHA/CARF guidelines.
- Train and oversee safety standards, move and store donated product as needed.
- Maintain a functional awareness of competition and retail trends, suggesting appropriate courses of action.
- Use and become certified on various equipment/tools to effectively train and oversee safety standards.
- Empower, lead, and manage retail store staff, ensuring safety, productivity, and success.
- Hire, set goals, and recommend terminations for employees in at least one department.
- Manage corporate email and calendar, and adhere to Goodwill policies and the Employee Handbook.
- Collaborate with the Retail Store Manager to conduct meetings for employee training, awareness, and knowledge transfer.
- Work closely with the Retail Store Manager to achieve goals and objectives, and increase sales and donations.
- Support the Retail Store Manager in budgeting, financial reporting, and profit and loss.
- Provide coverage for unexpected or planned absences, facilitate growth and training for team members, and contribute to business development initiatives.
Qualifications
- A High School diploma or equivalent is required; some college is preferred.
- At least 2 years supervising Retail Operations (or similar) with experience of being held accountable and responsible for the success of the business, operations, and financial results of a function or department.
- Proficient in the utilization of office equipment, office software (i.e. Word, Excel), and web-based applications (i.e. UKG).
- Ability to manage corporate email and calendar (i.e. Outlook).
- Organizational skills to manage multiple projects, people, and retail store functions.
- Ability to work within a deadline-pressured environment.
- Understanding of marketing and retail principles.
- Understanding of production processes and environment, including deadlines, quality control, working in a quick and efficient manner, and empowering staff to produce product(s) in a timely manner.
- Ability to create, review, and understand statistical information to increase the success of the retail store.
- Ability to understand, analyze, and scrutinize financial statements.
- Ability to adapt, adjust, and mold to changing circumstances.
- Ability to make difficult choices and be accountable for overall retail store performance.
- Ability to train, develop, and recognize talent and leadership.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Interest and empathy for people with disabilities and disadvantages.
- Able to obtain walkie stacker and/or forklift certification to safely operate equipment.
- Ability to work varied schedules to include weekdays, weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- Ability to work any hours necessary to provide complete store coverage and supervision.
- Must have a valid Colorado State driver license and be able to operate company vehicle.

Pay
$58,180.00 annually.
