About the role

The Assistant Sports Performance Coach develops and administers strength and conditioning programs for assigned sports (Men’s Basketball and Skiing), ensuring safe lifting techniques and supervising weight room and conditioning sessions. Responsibilities include warm-up implementation, physical monitoring, speed and agility development, recovery sessions, athlete testing, and collaboration with sports medicine on return-to-play protocols. The position may also support athlete and coaching staff education in physical stress management, nutrition, and wellness. Reporting to the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Sports Performance, this role ensures compliance with NCAA, University, and Division regulations while contributing to the growth of the intercollegiate strength and conditioning program.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement strength and conditioning programs for 17 sport programs, including customized training for individual student-athletes.
  • Contribute to the growth of DU’s intercollegiate strength and conditioning program and maintain expertise in weight training, cardiovascular conditioning, speed training, and nutrition.
  • Supervise the Varsity Athletic weight training facility, manage budgeting, ordering, and inventory, and compile relevant statistical data.
  • Oversee physical conditioning (strength, speed, flexibility, endurance) and educate student-athletes on proper training techniques.
  • Collaborate with the Sports Medicine Department on rehabilitation and ensure compliance with risk management policies.
  • Support additional administrative tasks, such as mentoring interns, managing fueling station budgets, or departmental ordering.
  • Promote a team-based approach to performance, health, and wellness under the Pioneer Health and Performance umbrella.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • One year of experience as a strength coach in a collegiate setting (full-time or graduate assistant).
  • CSCS certification (NSCA) or SCCC certification (CSCCa).
  • Knowledge of strength and conditioning principles and exceptional communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Three years of experience in strength and conditioning.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $60,000–$65,000. The final offer will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market factors.

Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

Working Environment
