About the role

The Assistant Sports Performance Coach develops and administers the strength and conditioning program for assigned sports (Volleyball & Men’s Lacrosse), teaches safe lifting and movement technique, and supervises all assigned weight room and conditioning sessions in line with departmental philosophy and methodology. Daily responsibilities include warm-up implementation, physical monitoring, speed and agility development, recovery sessions, and athlete testing and evaluation. The position may also support athlete and coaching staff education in areas such as physical stress, lifestyle management, nutrition, and general health and wellness.

Reporting to the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Sports Performance, this role assists in maintaining compliance with all NCAA, University, and Division regulations and contributes to the continued growth of the intercollegiate strength and conditioning program. The coach promotes a team-based approach to performance, health, wellness, and sport psychology services under the Pioneer Health and Performance umbrella.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement strength and conditioning programs for assigned sports and individual student-athletes.
  • Supervise all weight room and conditioning sessions, ensuring adherence to departmental philosophy and methodology.
  • Teach safe lifting and movement techniques, including warm-up implementation and physical monitoring.
  • Develop speed, agility, flexibility, and endurance programs for teams.
  • Conduct athlete testing and evaluation, and oversee recovery sessions.
  • Collaborate with the Sports Medicine Department on progressive rehabilitation and return-to-play protocols.
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with NCAA, University, and Division regulations.
  • Contribute to the growth of the intercollegiate strength and conditioning program and maintain current knowledge in strength training, conditioning, speed training, and nutrition.
  • Supervise the Varsity Athletic weight training facility, including budgeting, inventory control, and policy enforcement.
  • Compile statistical information related to strength and conditioning programs.
  • Support athlete and coaching staff education on physical stress, lifestyle management, nutrition, and wellness.
  • Represent the Athletics Department and University in public relations capacities as requested.
  • Additional administrative responsibilities may include mentorship of interns, oversight of the fueling station, or departmental ordering.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • One year of experience as a strength coach in a collegiate setting (full-time or graduate assistant).
  • CSCS certification with the NSCA or SCCC certification with the CSCCa.
  • Knowledge of strength and conditioning principles and exceptional communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Three years of experience in strength and conditioning.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $60,000–$65,000.

Working Environment
