Lacrosse Position Summary

As a part-time assistant coach in NJIT's intercollegiate athletic program, the incumbent will be responsible for assisting the Head Coach with functions relating to the management and running of a successful Division I Men’s Lacrosse program competing in the America East Conference. These responsibilities include player development, on-field and in-game coaching, recruiting, and assisting with administrative aspects of the program.

Responsibilities

  • Coaching Activities:
    • Aid in the organization and preparation of individual and team practices, training and competition preparation.
      • Aid in the identification and recruitment of prospective student-athletes in accordance with NCAA rules, and NJIT institutional admissions standards.
        • Maintain all appropriate safety guidelines and standards during team training and practices.
        • Provide guidance and assistance on navigating the collegiate student athlete experience.
        • Assist with player development.
        • Develop training methods to improve the overall skill development of the athletes both in/out of season.
        • Assist with player development.
        • Under the supervision of the Head Coach, develop training methods to improve the overall skill development of the athletes both in/out of season.
        • Provide Assistance in the coordination and administration of the program as required.
        • Coach a specialized area (ie. offense, defense, goalkeepers) as assigned by the Head Coach.
        • Work with athletic training staff as needed for prevention and care of player injuries and other health related issues.
    • NCAA Compliance Functions:
      • Knowledge of and adherence to all applicable NCAA rules, regulations, bylaws, constitutions and related university rules, regulations and policies.
    • Additional Functions:
      • Aid in the marketing and promotion of the Men’s Lacrosse program to all local constituencies including the campus, alumni, local Newark, Essex, and New Jersey communities.
      • Aid in coordinating fundraising efforts for the sport within the guidelines set forth by the Athletics Department.
      • Aid in clinics and camps for university and local community.
      • Represent NJIT athletic department at alumni and school functions as needed.
      • Maintain current health care certifications. (First aid, CPR/AED).
      • Perform other duties as assigned.

Pre-Requisite Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree is required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of coaching experience on the intercollegiate level or elite club level or high level collegiate playing experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of NCAA rules, regulations and compliance issues.
  • Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to travel evenings, as well as work evenings, weekends and holidays.
