Responsibilities

  • Instruct student-athletes on safe and effective exercises, speed development, change of direction skills, and conditioning for enhancing athletic ability and injury prevention.
  • Design and implement comprehensive strength and conditioning programs for assigned intercollegiate athletic teams.
  • Provide detailed instruction and education on executing all training exercises safely and correctly, using performance enhancement methods to achieve desired results.
  • Conduct testing and evaluation of student-athletes to effectively monitor and adjust training outcomes.
  • Collaborate with the athletic training staff to address student-athlete welfare, including daily injury reports, musculoskeletal examinations, and safety recommendations.
  • Promote commitment, teamwork, and positive relationships with administration, coaches, student-athletes, University staff, business vendors, and stakeholders.
  • Support the dietary recommendations provided by the athletics department's registered dietician for the health and performance of student-athletes.
  • Schedule and coordinate the strategic use of facilities for team training sessions.
  • Absorb responsibility for compliance with NCAA Division II and Great Lakes Valley Conference rules and regulations, University of Illinois policies and procedures, and Federal and State of Illinois laws.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics, Director of Sports Performance, and/or Director of Sports Medicine/Head Athletic Trainer.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in exercise science, sport management, kinesiology, recreation, or a related field required.
  • Candidates must hold or be pursuing a National Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association’s Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification or Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association’s Strength and Conditioning Coach Certification (SCCC).
  • CPR/First Aid certification is required.
  • Evening and weekend work is required as necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous collegiate experience working with strength and conditioning for student-athletes is preferred.
  • Knowledge, skills, and abilities in strong professionalism, communication, and leadership are preferred.
  • Ability to motivate student-athletes to perform at their optimal level.
  • Ability to work successfully with a diverse campus community.
