Job Summary
The Assistant Softball Coach assists Head Coach in providing management in all facets of the softball program. This role is responsible for recruiting prospective student-athletes, on field training/coaching, leading development in assigned focused area, student-athlete welfare initiatives, academic, scheduling, retention, and fundraising, with the university, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.
Core Responsibilities
- Performs duties assigned by head coach.
- Recruits high quality student-athletes.
- Affords assistance to head coach with coaching/training relating to proper techniques.
- Affords assistance with student-athlete development welfare programs.
- Affords assistance with team operation responsibilities.
- Affords assistance with scheduling.
- Builds professional relationships with staff and student-athletes.
- Affords assistance with all administrative processes, especially business office and compliance.
- Maintains knowledge of NCAA, AAC, UTSA, UT System rules and/or regulations.
- Affords assistance with and supports the coordination of the various booster, fundraising and community programs.
- Represents the university/softball program at off-campus functions.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
- Three (3) years of related work or playing experience.
- This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure per Texas EO-GA-48.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Specific knowledge in the sport of Softball
- Compliance of NCAA, State of Texas, UTSA and American Athletic Conference rules and regulations
- Organizational, Written, and Verbal Communication Skills
- Independent Judgement
- Discretion and Flexibility
Working Conditions
- Physical activity in Softball.
- Work requires weekend and evening hours as well as travel.
Physical Demands
- Standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods of time.
- Occasional lifting and moving of items up to 50 lbs.
