Responsibilities

  • Develop systems to support effective teaching strategies and the Creative Curriculum, ensuring they are developmentally appropriate and prepare children for success in school.
  • Review and/or revise Head Start service plans and systems under the leadership of the Site Supervisor and in collaboration with other area content supervisors and delegate representatives.
  • Plan and implement training for staff on required DCFS topics, Head Start Standards, NAEYC Accreditation Standards, developmentally appropriate practice, and other topics as needed.
  • Mentor and coach teaching teams on a monthly basis to develop and track progress on individual team member's Professional Development Plans.
  • Ensure effective transition planning for children and families, coordinating with staff, parents, program consultants, and community partners.
  • Adhere to compliance with funding requirements through routine system revisions, budgetary fulfillments, and facility maintenance.
  • Assess current and future facility needs and make preliminary arrangements with the Facilities and Transportation Manager to meet those needs.
  • Ensure adherence to Child Health & Safety standards across all sites.
  • Engage in effective interactions with diverse staff and service area populations, demonstrating non-bias respect and behavior.
  • Work collaboratively with other service area coordinators to integrate education services with health, mental health, abilities, dental health, nutrition, parent involvement, and social services.
  • Substitute as teaching staff when necessary.
  • Attend meetings and trainings to stay updated on trends in various service areas.
  • Supervise and ensure the safety of children in classrooms, during transitions, and on the playground.
  • Accurately reflect content area data in agency's Program Information Reports within set time frames.
  • Adhere to purchase approval requirements and procedures to ensure agency's fiscal integrity.
  • Participate in program recruitment efforts to maintain full enrollment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or Education from an accredited college or university, or Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education or advanced degree and coursework equivalent to a major relating to Early Childhood Education.
  • At least two years supervisory responsibility and experience in a 0-5 age setting.
  • Current registered Early Childhood Education Professional Educator License (PEL)-Formally Type 02 or 04 State of Illinois teaching certificate.
  • Pediatric First Aid and CPR certificate or obtain within 90 days of employment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in teams, excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work in a complex environment.
  • Physical demands include sitting, standing, talking, hearing, using hands and fingers to feel, handle, and operate objects or controls, bending, stretching, stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
