Responsibilities

  • Perform the job functions of a Safety Officer.
  • Assist Shift Supervisor, Director and Associate Director in the daily operations of Campus Safety.
  • Assign work tasks to Safety Officers.
  • Provide training for new Safety Officers.
  • Review Incident Reports, Daily Reports and Time Sheets for completeness and accuracy.
  • Cover for the Shift Supervisor, Director, and Associate Director during their absence.
  • Coordinate follow-up investigations on incidents occurring during the shift.
  • Cover vacation requests.
  • Schedule license renewal training for officers.
  • Represent the department in a professional and positive manner.
  • Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures and backgrounds.

Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal skills to build working partnerships with faculty, staff, and students as well as external parties.
  • Ability to de-escalate conflict situations and maintain a calm and relaxed demeanor.
  • A high level of professional ethics and personal integrity.
  • High School diploma required, some college preferred.
  • Five (5) years of supervisory experience required.
  • Law enforcement or military experience preferred.
  • Must qualify for Florida Department of State Class "D" and "G" licenses.
  • Must be able to exert appropriate strength when necessary.
  • Ability to climb stairs to the top of a nine story building; make judgment calls while under pressure/duress; carry and use, if necessary, a fire arm under pressure/duress appropriately.
  • Excellent clear and concise communication skills required.
  • Must have a valid Florida driver's license.
  • Must successfully pass a personal background, criminal records and psychological check.
  • Experience in using various safety and security equipment (two-way radio, cameras, and computers).
  • Experience in a college or university setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of or the ability to learn quickly The University of Tampa software programs such as Workday and Microsoft Office.
  • Willingness to embrace new technologies and innovative organizational practices.

Work Schedule

7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Pay Rate

$19.50 per hour ($18.50 + $1.00 Supervisor Pay) and full benefits

Benefits

A current UT officer regularly assigned to another shift will receive the adjusted rate of their current base rate (minus shift differential) plus $1.00 per hour.
