Assistant Service Center Manager

Job Summary

As an Assistant Service Center Manager, you will work with the Service Center Manager to oversee the daily operations of the service center. This position will be responsible for supporting the management of staff, ensuring efficient and timely freight movement, maintaining safety standards, and optimizing service center processes to meet customer expectations and company goals. This role is designed to develop your skills and experience for future advancement into a Service Center Manager position by gaining comprehensive experience and leadership development.

Essential Job Duties

  • Aids in planning, implementing, and overseeing the work of staff members to ensure efficiency and compliance with organizational requirements and company procedures.
  • Maintains and directs all dispatching activities, including tracking, routing, and dispatching transportation vehicles.
  • Assists in directing work activities designed to promote work safety and encourage continuing education among staff members.
  • Implements changes to transportation services, policies or scheduling as needed.
  • Ensures staff members fully and consistently comply with safety rules, administrative procedures and policies and government regulations.
  • Collaborates with staff members and fellow managers to create, modify, and implement goals, procedures, policies and objectives when the opportunity presents itself.
  • Builds and maintains a culture for proactive safety-focused, productive, efficient, low-attrition workforce.
  • Coaches team members to develop talent and depth to enable growth and effective operation.
  • Produces high levels of service, including on-time pickup and delivery and claims-free environment.
  • Produces high levels of productivity and optimal levels of labor spend.

Operation Efficiency and Effectiveness

  • Utilizes daily reports to manage goals, accuracy, and efficiency on route planning and linehaul operations in addition to on-time service and customer satisfaction.

Sales Support

  • Collaborates with the Sales team to identify opportunities for growth and work with all shareholders to integrate new opportunities into the network.
  • Manages customer concerns to agreement of customer and company and informs other company personnel of resolution.
  • Identifies shipments compromising profitability.

Facility and Vehicle Maintenance

  • Coordinates with Fleet and external services to maintain and repair company vehicles.
  • Maintains and submits required vehicle records.
  • Reviews equipment allocation by route and linehaul, and plans as needed.
  • Provides emergency assistance to protect our employees and service our customers; in the event of equipment breakdown, DOT inspections, facility or grounds hazard, and/or a safety-related event; in accordance with Company safety policies/procedures and applicable county, state, and federal laws.

Budget Maintenance

  • Aides in controlling expenses and operates within budget.
  • Approves and processes external invoices according to Company procedure.

Expectations

  • Interact with customers in a courteous, helpful, and professional manner.
  • Be accessible by phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Ensure adherence to Company safety policies and procedures, and all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Provide management with regular status reports concerning areas of responsibility.

Skills And Knowledge

  • Minimum of two years of experience in LTL Operations or comparable leadership role.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective organizational and multitasking skills.

  • Aptitude to notice details but manage overall view.

SHIFT: Monday-Friday (hours may change based on business need)

Salary Range

SALARY RANGE: $70,000-$75,000 (Depends on Experience and Skills)
