Position Summary

The Assistant Scientist, under the direction of the Principal Investigator, participates in exciting research projects supported by NIH and other research foundations. This position provides an exceptional opportunity to participate in a collaborative environment to perform comprehensive research toward understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms of neural damage and developing therapeutic strategies for neurological disorders. The candidate will receive proper training for the lab-specific skills and then perform independent research projects under the supervision of the PI, supervise junior researchers, and manage the research lab.

Job Details

  • Required Education And Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Neurobiology, or Biomedical Sciences and 2 years of relevant experience. An equivalent combination of educations and experience may be considered.
  • Required Skills And Abilities: Wet-lab experience, Experience in PCR and DNA electrophoresis, Experience in rodent handling, Experience in any histological or simple protein methods (e.g., western blotting), Working knowledge of applicable computer software and applicable professional principles.

Essential Duties

  • Rodent-related studies in the neuroscience field, including animal handling, surgery, neurological animal models (such as spinal cord injury in rodents), behavioral tests, tissue dissection, and histology.
  • Cell biology, including primary neuronal cultures, cell transfection, nerve outgrowth assays, and data analysis.
  • Molecular biological techniques, such as the viral vector packaging, PCR/RT-PCR/qPCR, gene cloning, and protein biochemistry (such as Western blotting).
  • Collect data and analyze results.
  • Maintain and occasionally manage standard laboratory equipment.
  • Resolves research problems within established protocols and requires some independent judgment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
