About the role
The Assistant Sailing Coach position at Washington College is a full-time role within the college's athletics department. This position involves assisting with all aspects of the Sailing program, including coaching, recruiting, and maintaining compliance with NCAA, ICSA, and MAISA rules.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Head Sailing Coach with program operations and maintenance
- Athletic instruction/coaching, team practices, conditioning
- Counsel and advise student-athletes on academic progress and well-being
- Recruit and scout prospective student-athletes
- Work with athletic communication and compliance staff for media relations
- Ensure athletes are medically cleared to participate
- Ensure athletes meet NCAA eligibility requirements
- Exercise unbiased judgment in recruiting
- Maintain compliance with all relevant governing body rules
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree
- Playing/coaching experience at a collegiate level
- CPR/First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain)
- Valid US Driver's License, MD Safe Boating Certificate (or equivalent)
- US Sailing Small Boat Level 1 Instructor preferred
Qualifications
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Experience with recruiting and scouting
- Knowledge of NCAA, ICSA, and MAISA rules and regulations
