Department Summary

The Department of Housing and Residence Life at the University of North Texas serves over 6,400 students in 14 residence halls. The department promotes safe and inclusive living environments, fosters student connections and campus engagement, and provides unique learning opportunities through Residence Life, Systems and Services, and Facilities and Business Operations.

About the Role

This live-in position assists the Community Director and serves as a leader and caretaker for students in the residence hall. Responsibilities include implementing student development programs, monitoring facilities, supporting university initiatives, and responding to student needs. Duties may vary by building.

Responsibilities

• Community Engagement: Assist with Hall Council leadership development, program planning, and implementation. Serve as a resource/referral agent for campus and community resources (e.g., Counseling and Testing Services, Dean of Students, Career Center, University Police). Make fiscal decisions following budgetary guidelines and engage students through programming.
• Behavior and Crisis Response: Administer the in-hall accountability process, follow emergency procedures, and respond to incidents. Complete on-call shifts as scheduled.
• Supervision of Staff: Serve as a secondary leader/manager of a residential community. Supervise student staff, conduct individual and group meetings, assign tasks, and provide feedback. Assist with staff selection, training, and evaluation. Address personnel issues and support front desk operations.
• Administration: Assist with residential facility management, including work orders, occupancy reports, and room assignments. Coordinate monthly safety inspections and follow-ups. Participate in departmental and university committees. Review practices, policies, and programs to meet diverse student needs.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience in residence life, student services, counseling, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience).
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Physical and emotional capacity to work long, irregular hours, including occasional emotional stress and interrupted sleep.
• Knowledge of safety and security precautions relevant to the role.

• Repeating motions involving wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
• Primarily sedentary work involving sitting/standing.

Pay

$36,000

Schedule

Monday – Friday, 9 AM to 6 PM; some evenings and weekends required.
