About the role

The Division of Hematology at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus (CU) has an opening for a full-time Assistant Research Professor in the Meyer Laboratory. This position is expected to work independently under the guidance of the principal investigator.

Responsibilities

  • Formally supervise and train new staff or students as needed, including hiring, performance management, and related duties, in addition to instruction on techniques and consultation on project work.
  • Oversee supply and equipment budget under the minimal supervision of the principal investigator or business manager.
  • Work with the health and safety department to ensure the lab complies with regulations and all required training(s).
  • Manage APB, IRB and APLAC protocols.
  • Provide general lab support as needed.
  • Manage animal colony and assist with prioritizing and carrying out experiments.
  • Design research approaches for a major portion of research project(s), including background research, experimental design and execution, problem-solving, and writing up for publication.
  • Develop new methods; test and evaluate a variety of approaches.
  • Perform complex analyses of multidimensional data, including running pipelines in a high-performance computing environment.
  • Strategically plan and prioritize novel cell engineering approaches occurring in the laboratory and in collaboration with the Gates Institute and Department of Surgery.
  • Manage integrated biobanking effort in collaboration with the Hematology Division and maintain liquid nitrogen and -80C freezer sample collections.
  • Contribute substantively to the preparation of papers for publication.
  • Present ongoing work and findings to colleagues at academic conferences.
  • Perform ongoing literature review to remain current with new procedures and related research; propose new research directions based on new advances discussed in the literature.

Requirements

  • Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire. A doctoral level degree (PhD, MD, MD/PhD) in immunology, stem cell biology, experimental hematology, molecular biology, or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • At least one first-author publication in an internationally recognized, peer-reviewed journal.

Qualifications

  • Specific experience with Stem Cell research.
  • Graduate training in a biomedical laboratory setting, studying immunology, molecular biology, hematology and/or stem cell biology.
  • Experience with the use of advanced flow cytometry equipment (including LSRII and FACSAria II) for analysis and sorting of cells, and development of multicolor antibody staining panels.
  • Experience in mouse handling, husbandry and dissection.
  • Experience in experimental hematology and molecular biology assays and techniques, including HSC isolation and analysis, and high-throughput sequencing.
  • Candidates that have successfully obtained competitive, extramural funding during their doctoral studies are preferred.

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member within a research environment.
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively with computer software including Microsoft Office.
  • Skilled with the use of aseptic mammalian cell culture techniques.
  • Skilled with common laboratory techniques and equipment consistent with PhD-level graduate training.
  • Ability to commit to an independent scientific career in stem cell biology, immunology, or a related field, with a proven high degree of independence and self-motivation to achieve these ends.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on the needs of the project.

Pay

Hiring Range: Assistant Research Professor: $95,000 - $120,000.
