About the role

Join us as Assistant Regional Underwriting Manager, Professional Liability/Cyber, Financial Lines to play your part in reimagining how we help customers to manage risk. This role offers an opportunity to grow your skills and experience as a valued member of the team.

Responsibilities

  • Able to exercise judgment, negotiate and make sound business decisions effectively based on increased level of authority.
  • Deliver profitable growth through effective risk selection; execute on rate, coverage and limits management strategies; drive targeted correction or remediation strategies as needed.
  • Responsible for helping to assign and manage the work of a team of underwriters.
  • Maintain oversight of underwriting compliance and adherence to underwriting requirements and guidelines for assigned book of business.
  • Support the delivery of consistent underwriting best practices, in accordance with underwriting guidelines, to ensure rating, pricing, profitability, and structuring adequacy.
  • Assist underwriters in executing strategic initiatives; provide support and develop solutions to their issues/concerns (system, guidelines, training, reports, new project request, product amendments).
  • Serve as referral point for field underwriting staff within stated authority; apply knowledge of market and industry to provide guidance on complex risks, exposures, and decisions.
  • Stay abreast of developments in competitive and risk landscapes to determine effect on renewals and new business opportunities.
  • Provide superior customer service to brokers and clients.
  • Develop strong, long-term relationships with brokers and clients to profitably grow a book of business.
  • Work collaboratively with all members of the North America Financial Lines leadership team as well as Actuarial, Legal and Claims departments.
  • Help create a culture that promotes collaboration, innovation, diversity and inclusion; successfully conduct talent acquisition, employee engagement and performance monitoring/evaluation work.
  • Serve as role model to all colleagues, leading by example as a senior member of the team.

Demonstrable experience formulating initiatives that support broader organizational aims
Experienced in building relationships externally and internally and managing key stakeholder relationships at executive and board level and with clients
Highly developed leadership skills that inspire teams to realize their potential
Ability to challenge effectively both people and portfolio strategy with the ability to effect change where appropriate

Technical Skills And Experience
7+ years of Financial Lines Underwriting, Agency or Brokerage experience
Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university
Advanced knowledge of the Financial Lines business (D&O, EPL, PTL, Fidelity) including product features, forms, regulatory environment and risks
Strong ability to identify, analyze and solve problems as well as the ability to learn rapidly, adapt quickly to change, exercise influence, and manage and prioritize multiple concurrent projects
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work in a dynamic, rapidly changing environment, adapting to changing requirements and collaborating with a wide range of colleagues to quickly deliver solutions
Proficient with underwriting analytical tools and technology
Collegial and collaborative in approach and style
Understanding of how to be effective within a matrixed structure
Ability to adapt quickly in an evolving market
Approaches a challenge with a “can-do” attitude
Available to travel when required

Pay

The base salary range for this role is $130,000-$175,000, and the position is eligible for a bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan.
