Assistant Quality Control Manager - Heavy Civil with AIS Infrastructure

About the role
The Assistant Quality Control Manager supports the organization and function of AIS Infrastructure construction projects. This role involves reviewing project documents related to quality control, coordinating tests and inspections, reviewing subcontractor deliverables, developing checklists, and maintaining documentation. The position ensures the quality of deliverables, customer satisfaction, and adherence to safety protocols.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Quality Control Manager across all project aspects.
- Review and/or produce design and construction documents.
- Implement QA/QC protocols during construction via submittals, RFIs, inspections, and field testing.
- Enforce compliance with quality standards.
- Oversee subcontractors and apply field supervision skills.
- Maintain documentation and reports.
- Coordinate with project managers, contractors, and clients to resolve quality issues.
- Continuously improve quality management systems.
- Provide expertise during pre-bid, construction, and post-construction phases.
- Guide project teams on quality control practices and requirements.
- Maintain a strong focus on safety and ensure adherence to safety protocols.
- Monitor, analyze, and report on internal production.
- Assist with project submittals, transmittals, and subcontract/purchase order preparation.
- Support the implementation of site safety programs.
- Maintain contract documents and electronic web-based records for field operations.
- Prepare Daily Construction Reports.
- Review contract drawings, specifications, and shop drawings to ensure compliance with contract tolerances.
- Perform other assigned duties and responsibilities.
Requirements
- Familiarity with relevant industry codes, standards, and regulations.
- Proven ability to assist with field and office engineering responsibilities.
- Initiative and desire to improve processes daily.
- Understanding of field testing, inspection procedures, specifications, tolerances, means and methods, and structural/civil concepts.
- Experience with audits, regulatory compliance, and risk assessment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Solid knowledge of project scopes, budgets, and schedules.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work within a team.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with computer applications, data entry, Microsoft Excel, and engineering design software.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is highly preferred.
- At least 3 years of experience in construction engineering, with heavy civil construction experience preferred.
- Preferred experience in landfills, geosynthetic/clay liner systems, earthworks, concrete structures, and HDPE piping.
- Bilingual (Spanish and English) is highly preferred.
- Familiarity with Procore and Unifier data management systems is a plus.
- Experience coordinating and monitoring soil and concrete tests is highly preferred.
- Relevant certifications in quality control or quality management (e.g., Certified Quality Manager, Certified Quality Engineer, CQM-C) are preferred.
- Experience working with USACE is preferred.
