Responsibilities And Duties The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Represent Van Buren County as an appointed Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Primarily assigned to the 7th District Court in South Haven, Michigan. Review and screen warrant requests for authorization Handle all matters prosecuted in the district courts including but not limited to: formal hearings, misdemeanor pretrial conferences, misdemeanor jury and non-jury trials, felony level probable cause conferences and preliminary examinations May be tasked with participation in a specialty treatment court Assist and counsel various police agencies in matters involving criminal investigations and review of search warrants. May also be required to handle a circuit court level felony trial on a case by case basis. Qualifications / Experience Law Degree required. Michigan Bar membership required. Prior prosecutorial experience preferred but not required Knowledge of and adherence to applicable rules of professional conduct Legal research and writing ability Public speaking ability Familiarity with United States and Michigan Constitutions Knowledge of applicable case law, statutes, court rules, and rules of evidence Ability to think logically Ability to objectively analyze and evaluate facts and issues to form impartial judgments Public relations skills and ability to work cooperatively with others Ability to willingly take direction from others and make application to assignments Willingness and ability to be flexible and help others as a good team member Willingness to work in South Haven District Court as needed Additional Qualifications Employment is dependent on background check, criminal history, and drug screen.
